The Hanging Rock at Oribi Gorge The reserve encompasses 24kms of the 400m deep gorge of the Mzimkulwana river and is a photographer's paradise. The river varies from rapids to quiet rock pools.

There are a number of pleasant walks and hikes as well as a circular drive. The deep gorge is an effective filter for the sounds of civilization and within its confines one can hear the calls of the 250 bird species, baboons and samango monkeys.

The forest along the river is surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs with names like Baboon Castle, the Pulpit, the Needle and Hanging Rock.

Natal South Africa 2010Baboons and dassies live on the edge of the gorge whilst in the forest there are leopard, buck and monkeys. Bird life is especially prolific with the beautifully coloured loeries, emerald cuckoos, black eagles and jackal buzzards on the cliff faces and the beautiful narina trogon.

Grassed areas adjacent to the river offer opportunities for secluded picnics. There is a picnic ground, self guided trails and a swimming pool. A nearby hotel offers good views of the Gorge as well as mountain bike trails.

There are six three bed huts with equipped kitchen and ablution block.
