The Original - 1997

I still like this one! A leather background texture, a punk warthog with a blinking eye that had a heart on the eyelid.

Version 2 ~1999

Trying to be impressive here with a sinister, dark look - warthog in its hole - which didn't last long. A bit oppressive I think.

Version 3 ~2000

Back to some common sense and the nascent green palette. This version I liked least I think.

Version 4 ~2001

I have finally ditched the splash page. Google has now made an appearance but that wasn't the only reason. It made absolute sense from a usability standpoint that visitors should be able to see what you have to offer on the home page. Still not a great look though.

A more professional approach. Tutorials on Homesite and the basics of CSS. I didn't realize what a lot of work the tutorials would be.

This has stood the test of time and been refined on several occasions. It was the first totally CSS website before all the hacks and even included a single gif image that incorporated all the icons so there was only one httpd visit. The stylesheet file is enormous though.
To its credit, the site works well on the major browsers when all there was at the time was IE6.

Grandad Hog

This little collection of the macabre shows the evolution of the Warthog websites - if you can call it evolution.

The first example was when it all seemed so easy - no Google, no competition, no CSS, just a punk hog with a blinking eye.

The second tried to be sinister with mouseover blinking red LEDs whilst #3 went for the minimalist look.

Finally with #4, we stay minimalist but get rid of the splash home page and then #5 is far more professional with a three column layout.
